UPDATE we have a major power steering leak, a major engine coolant leak, and a erratic fuel gauge which dances all over the place now and tends to stay on the low fuel with the fuel light on even with a full tank...
Bought a van on Thursday the 18th. On the way home the throttle stuck, spent 8 hrs and a couple hundred dollars at a garage on Saturday. We will never do business there again.
Crazy we bought a van off him too but our situation got much worse.., I asked him specifically if it was a reliable van because we have kids one of them a infant, we cant be breaking down on the road with a infant in the car and you figure what kind of lowlife would sell a broken down van to hard working parents trying to take care of their kids and spending their whole tax return... it all started from the moment we went to meet him to pay for and pick up the van we got lost and every dealership we stopped at warned us about this guy, then we get to his place pay for the van and he was asking us for a ride which I thought was rather strange..the title of the car was not in his name, he slapped a new inspection sticker on for us which I figured good thing we got that but he did put it on illegally and you will see why. I got the keys from him went to start it and the battery was dead...he swore up and down "which seems to be a common thing for this guy to lie" that hes never had any problems with the van jumped it for me and ran in side leaving me to dig the van out of his unplowed parking lot... we got it home, my girlfriend already didn't like it because it sounded like a tractor and the heat wasn't working rite but the check engine light was off so we figured we at least had a dependable van. she took the van to work that night and it did not start once again when she got out of work and had to call for a ride. we called jay and he said to bring it to hiltons garage and he would give them a battery to replace our bad one, they gave us another battery we picked it up and brought it home only for the same thing to happen the next two days in a row and then the power steering starts to go, and while we are starting the car every few hours trying to keep the battery charged we notice exhaust poring out under the passengers side door...we had been in to contact with jay the whole time half the text messages not responded to. he sends a text to take it back to hiltons garage, we take it to them again and come to pick it up a few days later. they said the battery had a dead cell which means jay gave them a dead battery to replace a dead battery with, they said the changed the power steering pump and did a spot weld on the muffler. it sounded 90% quieter i will give hiltons garage credit for that and the battery hasn't died sense, power steering seems to be working well so we thought that we were all set rite! wrong a few days later all the codes that jay erased on the computer before we bought the van came flooding in...... 9 codes!!! 9 freaking codes! coming from a master mechanic...and ever seance I mentioned that to jay we have not heard from him seance. I asked myself how in the heck does a van come out of a garage with 9 codes on it??? I called hiltons garage and they claimed that they did not know jay had reset them either....so now hiltons garage wants me to send them the codes and are still talking to me, I guess they care about their name a little more than jay, I would suggest that hiltons garage does not do business with jay because jay does not care about whos name he taints. we will be taking this to court and with 9 codes and transcripts from the hilton garage this guy is going to take his garbage back and give us our money so we can go get a reliable van from somebody honest and professional.
My girlfriend and I were searching for a specific type of car and lo and behold, we found our 2005 mitsubishi eclipse at hj Hobbs. I pride myself on my Google researching abilities, so I was hesitant to buy here since I had read all of the negative reviews. We looked anyways and decided to let the car speak for itself. It was fun to drive and shifted well. We made an offer that was below asking price since the car had obviously been sitting for awhile. The salesman, Ron accepted. Ron seemed to be a very honest guy and was excellent with communication. I told him of my concerns over the negative reviews, but his demeanor put me at ease. We purchased the car without incident. I was impressed with Ron and with Jay when I met him during the sale. The car had almost 100,000 miles on it when we purchased it, and like most used cars, it needed some work almost immediately. We were not surprised by this fact, although it seems that most of the other reviewers were expecting perfection from their used vehicle. The only unpleasant surprise was that the shop that inspected it passed it when the breaks were near metal on metal and the tires were dry rotted. I do not blame the salesman or Jay for this, but they really should get a better, more honest mechanic. That said, even after purchase, repairs, and tires, the car has still cost us well under blue book value and we are pleased with it and our overall experience with them. Best advice...any used car is a gamble and I'd you don't want to have to put money into it, have your own mechanic look it over prior to purchase...but don't blame the salesman.
jay will be lucky if he gets out of this one without getting his auto license took, sounds to me like he already does not have a license to drive.
